The Nevada County Office of Action, the Nevada County Department of Public Health and community partners announced a new countywide mental health and suicide prevention campaign, “Mental Health Matters in Nevada County.” The campaign was launched on his May 1st, which is Mental Health Awareness Month.
Mental Health Matters Nevada County is a regional campaign to increase public awareness, understanding, and access to mental health and suicide prevention resources. The centerpiece of the campaign is a new website, www.MentalHealthMattersNC.com, where residents can learn about important mental health and suicide prevention resources.
“The Nevada County Behavioral Health Department and the Department of Public Health are pleased to announce the launch of the Nevada County Mental Health Issues Campaign. Mental Health Matters Nevada County's goals are to:
1) Increase access to mental health and suicide prevention resources.
2) Increase awareness and understanding of mental health and suicide prevention.
3) Create a single place (www.MentalHealthMattersNC.com) where residents can learn more about mental health and suicide prevention.and
4) Recognize the importance of mental health and support efforts to eliminate the stigma of receiving support.
“Whether you have a mental health problem yourself, are looking for ways to support a loved one or just want to learn more, this campaign and new website will help all We think it will do something for people,” said Kathy Cahill, Nevada County Public Health Director. “We care about the mental health of our community. One of the ways we can help is by making sure people in the community understand the resources available to us and how they can get help.”
The new website consists of three sections: Crisis Services, Help, and General Resources. Crisis Services provides an overview of the support available to people experiencing a mental health crisis or considering suicide, including crisis services in person, by phone, text, and web chat. This includes Nevada County's new Mobile Crisis Team, which is available 24 hours a day, seven days a week at (530) 265-5811.
In our 'Getting Help' section, we share a step-by-step process that residents can follow to seek help for their mental health challenges, depending on the issues they experience and the type of insurance they have. Demystifies the process of seeking help (Medi-Cal, private insurance, uninsured, self-pay). General Resources provides information on a variety of topics related to general mental health and suicide prevention, including how to care for yourself, how to care for others, educational videos, and an outreach toolkit.
In addition to the new website, the campaign also includes newly developed support materials. The Nevada County Suicide Prevention Task Force will also become the Nevada County Coalition for Mental Health Issues and will continue its role as the regional coalition guiding local mental health and suicide prevention efforts in Western Nevada County.
