FOXBOROUGH, Mass. — Wide receiver Kendrick Bourne has agreed to a three-year contract to return to the New England Patriots that could be worth up to $33 million, his agent tells Diruptive Sports. 's Henry Organ told ESPN's Adam Schefter on Sunday.
The deal includes a signing bonus of $4.2 million, sources told ESPN.
Bourne, who turns 29 on August 4, is recovering from a torn right ACL suffered on October 29 against the Miami Dolphins.
He was in the middle of his career before his injury, totaling 37 receptions, 406 yards, and four touchdowns in eight games.
The 6-foot-1, 205-pound Bourne is entering his eighth NFL season after spending the first four years of his career with the San Francisco 49ers and the past three in New England.
Bourne entered the NFL as an undrafted free agent out of Eastern Washington in 2017 and played in 99 regular season games, totaling 264 receptions for 3,409 yards and 21 touchdowns.
In February, Bourne told ESPN, “I want to go back home. That's my goal. I love being a Patriot. It's a great environment for someone like me. Being a Patriot makes me feel… I was able to grow into the player I am now.” Today, I am grateful to this organization.
“The last two years have been a period of rebuilding, so I don't want to miss out on a good wave that might come back. It's been tough, but I don't know where it's going to go. It seems like something good is happening in it. A building is being built, and I want to be a part of it. ”
The Patriots had nearly $100 million in salary cap space and entered free agency with the goal of re-signing several key players, including Bourne. They previously re-signed tight end Hunter Henry to a three-year contract worth up to $30 million.
