Bexar County, Texas – Larissa Martinez, executive director of Circle of Arms, said there is a growing push to prioritize conversations about mental health after the Bexar County coroner confirmed a young mother died by suicide this week.
“Those things happen all the time, but there's a lot more going on,” Martinez said.
Kaiden Kliger's death has been ruled a homicide. This week, the coroner announced that Savannah Kriger died by suicide. Her mother and child were found dead at Tom Slick Park in March.
Martinez said the incident raises concerns about mental health across Bexar County.
“You never know what someone is dealing with on a daily basis, so it's important to have empathy,” Martinez said.
Lila Geis, a clinician at Endeavors' Stephen A. Cohen Military Clinic, said checking in on each other all starts with a conversation.
“Ask honest questions,” Geis says. “I think it's important to be honest and open about what you're seeing to start a conversation.”
Sheriff Javier Salazar released an updated timeline on the Kriger case Wednesday. Salazar said Savannah entered her home just before 2 p.m. on March 18 and appears to have fired shots at two of her wedding portraits and damaged other property.
Later, Salazar said Savannah picked Cayden up at his daycare around 2:30 p.m., and throughout that afternoon, Savannah's call log showed multiple calls to her ex-husband, Salazar said. Told.
Salazar said that shortly before 3:30 p.m., Savannah filmed a video of her and Kaiden in a drainage ditch before their bodies were discovered. Savannah told Kaiden to “say goodbye to her daddy.” Kaiden did just that.
Savannah also apologizes to Kaiden that her dad wasn't there and kisses Kaiden.
Shortly after 3:30 p.m., SAPD met with her ex-husband at his residence.
KSAT asked Salazar if it is typical for BCSO and San Antonio police to investigate multiple murder-suicides in a year.
“When we talk about murder-suicide, we always know it's dangerous,” Salazar said. “And in this case, on top of that, a little boy lost his life.”
