BAGUIO CITY (PIA) — The Anti-Red Tape Agency (ARTA) has commended the Baguio City local government for cutting excessive red tape and streamlining business license applications and renewals through the Electronic Business One-Stop Shop (eBOSS).
ARTA Executive Director Ernesto Perez led the awarding of the certificate of commendation for the fully compliant electronic system of the Baguio City local government unit led by Mayor Benjamin Magalong in a simple ceremony held at the SP Hall of City Hall on Friday (June 7).
In his keynote address, Perez commended the Baguio City LGU for its significant contributions and the mayor's leadership in realizing President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.'s vision for a progressive Baguio Philippines.
“This achievement is a testament to the joint efforts of the city government led by Mayor Benjamin Magalong and we are very happy to present each and every one of them with this certificate. This is an achievement for the people of Baguio.”
“Mayor Magalong, it is no secret to us that your leadership has contributed greatly to the development of Baguio City. Your commitment to efficiency is fully in line with the President's advocacy and vision for a progressive Baguio Philippines,” Perez said.
Republic Act 11032 or the Ease of Doing Business Act requires all LGUs to establish or operate eBOSS, and Baguio City is the 36th LGU to be honored for fully operationalizing eBOSS.
eBOSS is also a component of the eLGU (electronic Local Government Unit) system that was launched by ARTA, the Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) and the Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT) at the Luzon Cluster Caravan held on June 5 at the Baguio Convention Center.
Pérez said among the President's eight-point socio-economic agenda is greater efficiency in the bureaucracy and the best way to achieve this is to streamline and digitize all government processes and procedures through the eLGU system, which will result in more businesses, investments, more revenues, and more importantly, the best services the people deserve.
“President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr.'s vision of a stronger Philippines guides us today. He wants our nation to be people-centric with efficient permit and license acquisition. This vision, reflected in the elimination of bureaucratic red tape, is why we recognize and encourage streamlined and digitized government processes and procedures down to the barangay level,” Perez said.
DILG Cordillera Regional Director Araceli San Jose, Department of Trade and Industry-CAR Regional Director Juliet Lucas, and DICT Technical Operations Chief Allan Lao reaffirmed their offices' commitment to supporting and advocating for the transition of Cordillera LGUs to the eLGU system.
