Eight Anderson County FFA members from Anderson County High School recently participated in the 22nd Annual Career and Technical Education Student Leadership Day held in Frankfort on Tuesday, February 13th.
Approximately 300 students and advisors from across the state attended the daylong event, sponsored by the Kentucky Career and Technical Education Association and held during National Career and Technical Education Month.
Governor Andy Beshear signed a proclamation designating February 2024 as Career, Technology, and Entrepreneurship Education Month in Kentucky. This year's theme for his CTE Month is “Celebrate Today: Own Tomorrow!”
Career and Technical Education Student Organizations help members gain leadership skills and experiences that will help them pursue career, college, and lifelong learning opportunities.
Career and Technical Education students participated in a program led by Murray State University's Ellie McGowan, who led a civics seminar on the role of citizens in government.
KACTE President-Elect and Jessamine County Career and Technology Center Principal Christy Huck challenged the students to become leaders in their communities.
After the program, Anderson County students had the opportunity to tour the state capital and meet with state representative James Tipton and state senator Adrienne Southworth.
They also took a tour of the Capitol and attended the 2024 National FFA Week proclamation signing with Governor Beshear.
“What a great day to advocate for career and technical education in our state!” said ACHS FFA Advisor Caitlin Pinkston.
Career and Technical Education Student Leadership Day was sponsored by the Kentucky Farm Bureau Federation and Kentucky Farm Bureau Insurance.
