ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (KRQE) – East Central Health and Social Services Center has a new name.
The city named the facility, located on Zuni Island near Louisiana, after the late City Councilwoman Ruth Adams, who was the first woman to represent the 6th District.
“Many people have helped make Albuquerque what it is today, and we want to share their stories and recognize the important work they have done to make our city a better place,” said Mayor Tim Keller. We are helping the next generation to know about it.” “Ruth Adams made a lasting impact on our community and helped shape the way our city cares for those in need.”
The city said she is a strong advocate of bringing resources to the International District, including a Health and Human Services Center that provides food boxes, clothing banks, eviction prevention and utility assistance.
“I stand on the shoulders of past District 6 councilors like Ruth Adams,” said Councilwoman Nicole Rogers. “She was a fierce and outspoken advocate for our community and wanted to be known as a truth teller like 'Ruth the Truth,' as she was often called. The renaming of East Central Health Social Services Center comes as Councilwoman Adams is determined to make improving the lives of people living in the Southeast region a central mission of her tenure. That's appropriate. ”
Councilman Adams' daughters, Liz and Mary, attended Friday's dedication ceremony.
