At least 13 people, including seven children, were killed and more than 25 others injured in an attack on the al-Magazi refugee camp in central Gaza on Tuesday, officials at Al-Aqsa Martyrs Hospital said.
Graphic video obtained exclusively by CNN from eyewitness Nihad Oudetallah shows several casualties, including a child, strewn on the floor with blood all around them.
Dozens of people appeared to be panicking, screaming and running around, trying to count and transport the bodies. A dusty foosball table can be seen among the corpses.
Oudethaler, who lives in the camp, told CNN that he heard an explosion about 30 to 40 meters away from him at around 3:40 pm local time on Tuesday.
“I immediately went to see what had happened and found bodies thrown on the ground. People screaming, children screaming. Children lying dead on the ground. He was just playing ball and became a martyr,” he said.
Footage taken by CNN from inside Al-Aqsa Martyrs Hospital shows the injured and wounded being brought in one by one, with the emergency room crowded with patients, including several injured children. and screaming on the floor. Family members can be seen huddled over the bodies of their loved ones, kissing, hugging and sobbing.
Video taken from inside the hospital morgue shows families trying to identify their loved ones among the dead. “This is my son,” Fatmeh Issa told CNN, pointing to a white body bag with the boy's bloody face exposed.
Another man yelled, “They have nothing to do with anyone!” they are civilians. Please have mercy on us. You are killing children. You are not killing troops or combatants. You are killing children who were playing peacefully in the street. ”
The video shows him handing the young girl's corpse to another man, both of them sobbing while shouting verses from the Quran. The man who received her body placed her on the ground, covered her body with his jacket, and told CNN that her girlfriend was his own daughter.
“This is my eldest daughter…her name is Loujain, she is 9 years old. The strike hit them when they were playing on the street. They are all just children,” he added.
Video taken from outside the hospital garden shows people in distress, especially a woman who storms into the hospital and screams for her loved ones. Dozens of people can be seen gathering in the garden to pray for the deceased before being taken for burial.
CNN has reached out to the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) for comment, but has not yet received a response.
