77th World Health Assembly Strategic Roundtable
The pandemic has served as a stark reminder of the complex relationship between health and the economy, and the fragility of health systems. As the world emerges from the COVID-19 pandemic, countries face significant gaps and challenges in providing access to basic health services in the face of intensifying crises, climate change, and significant fiscal contraction. facing. Key partners, including WHO, world leaders and parliaments, are working together to advance a bold new vision that puts people's health and well-being at the center of national and global action in an increasingly turbulent world .
WHO's Council on the Economics of Health for All has set out recommendations to reframe health as a public policy objective and ensure economic structures that support health and well-being. Emergency investment in health focuses on reorienting health systems towards a primary care approach and represents a key global priority to achieve universal health coverage (UHC). Such investments are essential to building the capacity of communities and countries to provide quality health care for all and increase resilience to future health crises. Domestic public funds are the most sustainable resource and the clearest indicator of how countries prioritize the health of their populations. Increasing domestic funding and new financing opportunities are essential elements to rapidly accelerate progress towards UHC.
This strategic roundtable will bring together WHO Member States as a shared responsibility across all sectors and a critical step towards repositioning health for all as a strong driver for sustainable, equitable and purposeful development. It will unlock important new opportunities. It aims to enable Ministers of Health to champion action and influence funding across multiple sectors towards a whole-of-society approach to improving people's health and wellbeing. . Following a keynote address on the Council's work, a roundtable will share perspectives from regional investment banks, economists, national government, civil society, and Congress.
