YOUNGTOWN AIR RESERVE BASE, OHIO —
Luke Christie, 910th Force Support Squadron health and fitness program manager, encourages all members of Youngstown Air Reserve Base to maintain a healthy lifestyle.
“When you are healthy, you can work and live your life to the best of your ability,” Christie said.
Promoting health and fitness across the wing, Christy not only instructs all Airmen on the required Air Force Fitness Test, but also creates individualized and unique fitness improvement plans for them.
“I want you to be healthy and strong so that you can do what the Air Force requires of you and be ready at any time,” Christie said.
Christy reiterates that no matter what the job looks like today, it can be different tomorrow, especially with the members in place. This is what it means to be “fit for battle.”
“When you are fit and healthy, your immune system is strengthened and you are less likely to get sick, which in turn allows you to carry out your daily duties and routines,” Christie says.
As an Airman, wingman, or leader, it's important to lead by example and inspire those around you. One of the important ways to do this is within physical fitness and healthy living.
“Find the type of daily activity that best suits your needs,” Christie explains.
For Kristy, it's play wrestling with her 5-year-old son, but for others, it might be walking with her family, playing basketball, or working out at the base fitness center.
“Increasing your heart rate strengthens your heart muscle, which may help prevent heart disease…especially if you have a family history of heart disease,” Christie says. “This advice is especially important during American Heart Month.”
Any member can come to the fitness center and receive advice from Christy, who can support you on your health journey.
