The Indiana High School Athletic Association announced Monday the enrollment totals that will be used for the next two-year reclassification cycle.
Enrollment numbers submitted by schools to the Department of Education will be used to determine the following two classifications for the realigned team sports: baseball, boys and girls basketball, football, boys and girls soccer, softball and volleyball. -year cycle.
There's more intrigue this year, as the IHSAA executive committee passed a plan last June to classify four tier sports — baseball, boys and girls basketball, softball and volleyball — using different processes. Instead of dividing classes evenly, the largest 20% of schools will be placed in Class 4A, the next 25% in 3A, the next 25% in 2A, and the smallest 30% in Class A. Football (6 classes) and soccer (3 classes) will continue to be classified as they have been in recent years.

The rankings for each competition will be announced in the coming weeks. Following this announcement, a committee of school administrators will present recommendations for section adjustments that are expected to be approved at the IHSAA Executive Committee meeting in late April. Tournament success factors will be incorporated into the new arrangement.
Some takeaways from enrollment numbers (*IHSAA has revised the original release, so some changes have been made to the numbers below):
∎ The 20% number for Class 4A would be 81.2 schools. The No. 81 school is Logansport (1,226 students enrolled) and No. 82 is Greenwood (1,211 students). Keep in mind that tournament success factors will be factored into the reclassification. Additionally, three schools will qualify for his 2026-27 tournament: GEO Next Generation, Mooresville Christian and Seven Oaks Classical School.
∎ Notable schools likely to be classified as 3A in the next classification cycle include New Palestine (83rd with 1,209 students), Cathedral (84th with 1,172 students), and Crispus Attucks (1,170 students). (ranked 85th out of 1,082 students), and Roncalli (ranked 92nd out of 1,082 students). Shelbyville, Marion and East Chicago Central are among other notable schools classified as 3A in four-class sports.
∎ Looking at the percentages, there are 81 schools in 4A, 102 in 2A, 102 in 3A, and 122 in Class A.
∎ This roughly determines the 3A/2A limits in four-class sports for Oak Hill (183rd with 538 students) and Fort Wayne Bishop Luers (184th with 532 students). Again, considering success factors will change these cutoffs slightly. But while Speedway (173rd with 571 students) and Cascade (178th with 546 students) appear to be well within the 3A group, Western Boone (192nd with 513 students), Heritage Christian (195th with 507 students) appears to be well within the 3A group. (number of students), Monrovia (ranked 196th with 503 students) and Cardinal Ritter (ranked 200th with 498 students) will fall under 2A, a four-division sport.
∎ Class 2A/A deadlines for four-class sports are approximately Riverton Park (285th with 320 students) and North Newton (286th with 319 students). Again, these cutoffs are not exact due to tournament success factors, but they should be within that range.
∎ Be prepared for widely different section alignments, especially for Class 4A. I think they will primarily be sectional areas of five teams. The entire week is going to feel different in 4A basketball.
