Cleveland Metropolitan School District (CMSD) and MetroHealth System's School Health Program announced the opening of three new in-school wellness centers at Mound Elementary School, Glenville High School, and Clara E. Westrop Elementary School.
The opening of Mound Wellness Center, Glenville Wellness Center and Clara E. Westrop Wellness Center coincides with the 10th anniversary of MetroHealth and CMSD's partnership to provide school-based health care services. The program continues to expand under the district's Integrated Health Initiative, which aims to improve families' access to health care by providing health services in schools.

The American Rescue Plan Act of 2021 awarded nearly $4.5 million to MetroHealth's School Health Program in spring 2022 to renovate and expand these wellness centers and add new health services across the district. Construction and capital expenditure management is coordinated with the Ohio Department of Education and Department of Health. Additional funding is available through the Governor's Emergency Education Relief Fund.

MetroHealth's School Health Program addresses social barriers such as food insecurity and lack of access to safe housing, reliable transportation, and digital connectivity by connecting families with community resources that can help.
The Wellness Center provides health screenings, chronic disease management, care coordination, immunizations, mental health testing, urgent care, laboratory work, and other primary care services to the district's students, families, and staff. Preventive dental care and telehealth will also be available through Metro Health providers. Appointments can be made by calling 216-957-1303 or in conjunction with a CMSD school nurse. Walk-in reservations are also accepted on a first-come, first-served basis.
In addition to the new in-school clinic, the MetroHealth School Health Program operates mobile units serving more than 10 locations within the district as part of a partnership with CMSD's Integrated Health Initiative.
