Estimated time! From MVP to surprise hero, Sky Sports NFL teams decide who will play in Super Bowl III as the San Francisco 49ers prepare to take on the Kansas City Chiefs in Las Vegas…
Winner and scoreline
The Chiefs won 20-17. I think the Kansas City Chiefs will win back-to-back championships for the first time since the 2003 and 2004 seasons. They have Patrick Mahomes, they may not be the best team, but they have the best players in the NFL. neil reynolds
Chiefs won 28-21. I think the 49ers are a more complete team, but they can't play Patrick Mahomes in the biggest games. hannah wilkes
The Chiefs won 27-24. I think it will be a very defensive game in the first half, with some field goals being forced, but either way it's going to be an exciting game. Phoebe Schechter
The Chiefs won 24-23. This is one of the closest games in recent history I think. It's a very close race and even the bookmakers are having a hard time. I can't wait to play against Patrick Mahomes. When you play the most important position in this sport and play like he plays, even if they don't have a great receiving core this year, even if Travis Kelce is the only one who actually throws the ball Even if it were a weapon, I can't go against him. I think the final possession will be the deciding factor in this game either way. Jeff Reinbold
The Chiefs won 31-27. The battle will be decided in Super Bowl LVIII. Both teams scored touchdowns on their first drives in a frenetic, back-and-forth opening, before Patrick Mahomes broke a duel with Brock Purdy in an epic fourth quarter to move the Chiefs closer to their second straight Super Bowl title. cam hogwood
MVP
Patrick Mahomes. Of the 58 MVPs in NFL history, 32 have been quarterbacks. If the Chiefs win, I think they'll move in that direction and Patrick Mahomes will become the MVP for the third time in his career. neil reynolds
Patrick Mahomes. He has stood on his back for the Chiefs many times, and there's a good chance he'll do it again Sunday. However, if it goes the 49ers' way, it will 100 percent be Christian McCaffrey. hannah wilkes
Patrick Mahomes. I think my pick has to be Mahomes since the Chiefs won the Super Bowl, but if we're the 49ers, that's an exception to the rule that the quarterback gets it, and I think CMC gets it. Phoebe Schechter
patrick mahomes. Usually it's the quarterback who wins MVP, but I think Christian McCaffrey has the best chance for the 49ers to win it. I think Mahomes will make some big plays that only Patrick Mahomes can do, win the game, and then win MVP. Jeff Reinbold
patrick mahomes. He and the Chiefs struggled offensively for much of the regular season, but perhaps the world has forgotten just how good Patrick Mahomes is. He won another MVP award Sunday night, furthering his growing legacy as one of the greatest quarterbacks in NFL history. cam hogwood
surprise hero
Nick Bolton. I think the surprise hero of Super Bowl 58 will be Chiefs linebacker Nick Bolton. The 49ers have the best running back in the NFL in Christian McCaffrey, who is the best at running the football inside, running the football outside, and catching passes out of the backfield. Nick Bolton needs to shut Christian McCaffrey out and I think he will do that. He's going to be one of the superstars. neil reynolds
Chris Jones. The way this 49ers offense stacks up shows that big defensive plays will ultimately be key. Steve Spagnuolo has been great with them and I can see Chris Jones going after Purdy when it matters most. hannah wilkes
Dru Tranquil. The Chiefs linebacker had a great game against the Baltimore Ravens in the AFC Championship Game a few weeks ago. He's really good at creating an edge with his ability to play in coverage and disguise, and the way he fits into Steve Spagnuolo's defense. Spags loves sending him in to apply pressure, and he will play a big role against Purdy as a bit of a spy. Phoebe Schechter
chase young. I think the 49ers edge rusher has a real chance to come out of the shadows, as he hasn't played particularly well or made a huge impact since arriving from Washington at the beginning of the season. He's playing opposite Nick Bosa, so I think he has a chance to have a big game. Jeff Reinbold
leo chenal. This game is set up to feature one of the linebackers on either team. It was tempting to go after nickel Trent McDuffie here, but second-year linebacker Leo Chenal will be in the big game as one of the key downhill pieces to shut down McCaffrey and the Niners' ground attack. I think we may be ready for it. While the Chiefs haven't taken too kindly to zone-blocking schemes this season, Chenal's explosiveness and offensive ability at the line of scrimmage are invaluable in offloading the workload to Brock Purdy. Potentially important. cam hogwood
Chiefs key to victory
The key to the Chiefs' victory is very simple. The biggest battle of this game will be how Kansas City's defense will fare against San Francisco's weapon-laden offense. If San Francisco fails to score, the Chiefs' chances of victory increase significantly. It all comes down to the Chiefs defense. neil reynolds
Shut down Christian McCaffery and the 49ers moved on. Easier said than done. Despite being solid overall, the Chiefs defense was not the most efficient against the run and had to limit CMC's first contact. hannah wilkes
They have to continue using the formula they've used throughout the playoffs. The defense is really the strength and the driving force, and the offense has to maintain that desire as much as possible without having to go down the field and score every time. It needs to be a punt away as their defense continues to put them in great position for success. Mahomes will need to work with Laci Rice and Travis Kelce, but I think it will ultimately come down to consistency on defense and play-calling. Phoebe Schechter
The defense has to play well. If you compare this Chiefs team to past Chiefs teams, this team wins differently. In my opinion, defensive coordinator Steve Spagnuolo is arguably the most valuable player. He did a great job and held the deficit to 10 points in the win in Baltimore. This is incredible against the best rushing offense in the league. Jeff Reinbold
Defense has been the story of the season for the Chiefs, and that theme won't go away come Sunday as they look to adjust their blitz-heavy approach to quarterback Purdy, who has done well this season. But Mahomes and his guys. Against the league's most talented group of weapons, they can't be completely relied on to get them out of trouble. For all the talk about an offensive turnaround, Andy Reid's team still shows signs of slowing down slightly after three playoff wins. If that happens, Mahomes, Kelce, Laci Rice and Pacheco will have to prepare for the shootout. Balance is key. cam hogwood
49ers key to victory
If the 49ers are going to win this Super Bowl, they need to score points. The Chiefs haven't been very successful in recent years. If San Francisco can score 24 or 28 points, they certainly have the weapons around Brock Purdy to accomplish that, as they've been held to under 20 points in half of their games this season. . , then they'll put real pressure on Kansas City. It's a very close match. neil reynolds
They have to start early. That doesn't guarantee a win against the Chiefs (we saw them come from behind to win the last time the teams met in the SB, and of course last year against the Eagles), but it feels settled for Brock Purdy. It's extremely important that you feel like your offense is working. Roll early. This is not just a game, it's the Super Bowl against an opposing quarterback who has played flawlessly all the way to the end, so a good, clean start is key in terms of mental battles and challenges. This come-from-behind victory will be much more difficult for the 49ers than the playoff game between Green Bay and Detroit. hannah wilkes
That would really be a great decision for Brock Purdy. He's going to have to get the ball into the hands of the playmakers. Featuring the Four Horsemen: Deebo Samuel, Christian McCaffrey, George Kittle, and Brandon Aiyuk. CMC is the heart of the game, and the 49ers will need to play a great game to have a chance. Phoebe Schechter
Purdy needs to eliminate bad plays and can't afford to go through the first half like he did in the past two games against the Green Bay Packers and Detroit Lions. If you look at what they were able to do in these games, they came back in the second half. I don't think they can do the same against a Chiefs defense that is playing at a very high level. Jeff Reinbold
Stop Isaiah Pacheco and the Chiefs running game. The Packers and Lions both threatened to end their Super Bowl journeys with success on the ground early in the playoffs, but balked at San Francisco's star-studded offense. Pacheco, in particular, has helped the Chiefs' offense revitalize over the past three games. Most of all, Brock Purdy will have to be patient in the face of Spagnuolo's defense, which throws all sorts of false coverages. We can't afford to let him leave at an expensive rate, and we can't let his departure snowball. cam hogwood
one bold prediction
My bold prediction is that Chiefs receiver Marquez Valdes-Scantling (who has been absent most of this season) will score a touchdown in the second half and it will be the big play that leads to the Chiefs' victory over the 49ers. . neil reynolds
Taylor Swift is absent! hannah wilkes
In the 4th quarter, Brock Purdy will be under some pressure and forced to make an errant throw, and a hungry Chiefs defense will likely throw an interception and maybe a pick-six! Phoebe Schechter
Kansas City's receivers don't drop any passes. They led the league in dropped passes this year, but they're starting to trend in the right direction in the playoffs, and I think that's one thing that will really help Kansas City. Jeff Reinbold
Justin Bieber will be a guest on Usher's halftime show! Oh, and Chiefs left guard Nick Allegretti will score the famous big man touchdown. cam hogwood
