Illinois Valley Community College's Board of Trustees on Thursday began purchasing simulation equipment for its early childhood education program and commissioning artwork to commemorate the college's 100th anniversary this year.
The university is seeking bids to purchase software kits and baby-sized mannequins that can be programmed for child care, child education and parenting lessons, according to a news release.
Costs will be covered by the Early Childhood Access Consortium for Equity Grant.
The Board of Trustees approved the commission and purchase of a 10-foot by 20-foot mural highlighting the university's past and future. The art, purchased using his $35,000 from the IVCC Foundation CTC Fund, will be installed at the entrance to Building C of the Peter Miller Community Technology Center.
President Tracy Morris reported:
- This month, an American Red Cross blood drive hosted by the Red Cross Club and Student Nursing Association on campus and in Ottawa once again set a campus record.
- Upcoming activities this month include two canned food drives on campus.
- Case IH planters were donated to the agriculture program and arrived this week.
- The facility master plan continues with planning objectives and ranking of proposed projects.
- Registration updates indicate an increase in the number of students and credit hours compared to the Spring 2023 semester.

- The following faculty tenures were approved: Welding Instructor Theresa Morne, Nursing Instructor Chrissy Boughton, Nursing Laboratory Instructor Kathy Lenkaitis, Nursing Instructor Samantha Whiteacre, and Mathematics Instructor Emily Morgan.
- The Illinois Community College Trustees Award includes the Outstanding Alumni Award (Mr. John Cibrowski), the Ethical Leadership Award (Mr. Fran Brolly), and the Gigi Campbell Student Trustee Excellence Scholarship (Student Trustee Elizabeth Boyles) and the Pacesetter Award (Martha Hoffman Kerestes), among others.
- The appointment of Caitlin Hickey as Help Desk Support Technician in the IT Department and the resignation of James Bock, IT Programmer/Analyst, and Rachel Olson, Assessment Center Assistant, to continue as part-time instructors. Knew.
- Approved the return of the subsidy that was scheduled for the solar array in Building J. This is because plans have changed and the J building will undergo renovation work.
- We allowed one of our industrial laboratories to donate or dispose of old equipment.
