Three-year-old twins found unresponsive in a car parked along a Miami highway have died, authorities say.
MIAMI – Three-year-old twins were found unresponsive and dead in a car parked along Interstate 95 in Miami early Friday morning, and the female driver was seriously injured by jumping off an overpass when police arrived. The authorities announced that he had been injured.
The investigation found traffic was backed up north of downtown Miami, causing delays for commuter trains.
Miami-Dade County police said they received a 911 call around 2 a.m. about a boy and a girl in the back seat of a parked car at the Golden Glaze Interchange, where Interstate 95 meets the Florida Turnpike. He's one of the busiest spots in South Florida. A passerby was attempting CPR.
When police and firefighters arrived, the woman jumped from the overpass onto the railroad tracks below. Police found the children and took them to the hospital, where they were pronounced dead. No information regarding possible causes has been released. A woman was also taken to the hospital, where police said she was in critical condition.
Police say the relationship between the woman and the children has not yet been determined. His name has not been released.
Detective Andre Martin told reporters: “Investigators are currently working to solve this tragic case.”
