The number of Vietnamese products sold on Amazon has grown 300 percent in the past five years, reaching 17 million units by 2023.
Trinh Khac Toan, northern regional director of Amazon Global Selling Vietnam, which supports sellers, said at the forum on Thursday that the value of goods exported through the U.S. e-commerce platform during the period had increased by 50 percent.
The number of Vietnamese sellers with annual sales of $1 million grew 10-fold between 2019 and 2023, while the number of sellers who legalized their brands through the Amazon Brand Registry program increased 35-fold, he noted.
These figures show the incredible potential of cross-border e-commerce, he said.
Amazon Global Selling predicts that cross-border e-commerce in Vietnam and Southeast Asia will grow by 20% annually until 2026.
Bui Trung Kien, vice chairman of the Vietnam E-Commerce Association, said the development of cross-border e-commerce is of great importance to boosting Vietnam's exports.
But he warned that the country's legal framework for businesses could pose an obstacle to this.
Cao Cam Linh, director of the Vietnam Logistics Human Resources Training Association, said logistics needed to be developed to support e-commerce.
Tuan said online businesses need to invest in market research to identify customer needs, improve products and build their brands with a long-term vision.
In Vietnam, Amazon has worked with the E-Commerce and Digital Economy Agency to train 10,000 people for the cross-border e-commerce industry.
