The COVID-19 pandemic and the containment measures taken to prevent its spread have had a major impact on many countries and regions in the Forum for East Asia-Latin America Cooperation (FEALAC), changing the activities and business models of businesses, especially MSMEs, as well as shopping habits. Indeed, e-commerce has shown unprecedented growth as businesses and consumers turned to digital channels to stay active.
In this context, there is an urgent need for governments to step up support for businesses, especially SMEs, to benefit from the rapidly growing domestic and international e-commerce markets. However, there is a lack of timely data and national statistical capacity to monitor trends in domestic and international e-commerce markets.
To fill this data gap, the Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (ESCAP), the International Trade Centre (ITC) and the Amsterdam University of Applied Sciences conducted a regional study and developed a unique database mapping the traffic volumes and characteristics of selected Asian markets. During the webinar, speakers will demonstrate the Asia Market Explorer (AME) dashboard and delve into key insights derived from regional reports and country profiles developed using this database. Finally, a moderator-led panel discussion will foster dialogue among researchers, policy makers, e-commerce experts and private sector professionals on the survey's key findings and the opportunities created by e-commerce.
The report and country profiles are available at: “The Landscape Of B2C E-Commerce Marketplaces In East Asia | ESCAP” (unescap.org).
