India has a new AI-generated news anchor called Lisa.

Upon closer inspection, Lisa's slow blinking and stuttering movements were indeed disturbing.

Still, I feel news anchors should be very worried about their job security right now.
Add news anchoring to the list of professions that artificial intelligence is entering, and its quiet takeover of news anchor desks is now reaching India as well.
The South China Morning Post reported that the first AI-generated news anchors were broadcast in India in April, and one of them, Lisa, is now a news anchor for Odisha TV, a regional broadcaster in eastern India.
At first glance, Lisa appears to be a human news anchor, but upon closer inspection, the AI's slow blinking and choppy movements are decidedly unsettling.
Lisa speaks in a robotic monotone and lacks the necessary tonal inflection that a human presenter would, but apart from the audio/video synchronization issues, her delivery is adequate.
Lisa: Odisha TV Twitter account. The uploaded video lists the presenter's name but does not specifically mention that Lisa was generated by AI.
Listening to the news amid the low murmur and chatter of the office, you might mistake her for a human.
In other words, she is worthy of the 24-hour media that often plays in the background in offices, cafes, hospital rooms, and so on.
The era of AI news readers isn't just around the corner; this robot revolution has already begun. Today, Lisa joins the ranks of other AI-generated presenters employed in newsrooms in Indonesia, Taiwan, Kuwait, Malaysia and China.
It is unclear how Lisa's introduction affected the work of others in her newsroom, or whether the move was a cost-cutting measure.
“Lisa will be a great partner,” Odisha TV managing director Jagi Mangat Panda told the South China Morning Post. [It] We take on the repetitive, data-driven work, so journalists can focus on new perspectives and more creative work.”
