This honor is given to schools that have implemented initiatives such as outdoor classrooms and comprehensive environmental education initiatives.
La Colina was recognized for its beautiful and thriving gardens, campus beautification, garden education, composting, and community partnerships.
“This silver level award is the result of our school’s efforts to lead in sustainability across the school, and our school’s commitment to emphasizing personal responsibility and embracing practices that support our goal of engaging in environmentally friendly practices. commitment,” said La Colina teacher Maureen Granger. .
The Green Ribbon School Award recognizes the efforts and progress of La Collina students, school and district staff, families, and community partners in supporting school-wide sustainability.
“La Colina is proud to be recognized for our sustainability efforts and look forward to working with our school, district, and community partners to continue this important work,” said Principal Jennifer Foster. “I'm doing it,” he said.
The school incorporates environmentally friendly initiatives into every part of its curriculum, including physical education lessons. Students help by running and picking weeds as part of their warm-up. Additionally, outside the classroom, efforts were made to find temporary alternatives to single-use plastics at lunchtime in preparation for Earth Day.

Mr. Foster and Mr. Granger both received Green Ribbon Awards at a ceremony in Claremont on Tuesday.
