NYC Health + Hospitals/Bellevue Pride Health Center recognized for advancing LGBTQ+ healthcare provider training and education efforts

NYC Health + Hospitals/Bellevue announced today that Building the Next Generation of Academic Physicians (BNGAP) has selected the hospital's Pride Health Center as a recipient of the Institutional/Organizational Leadership Award. This award recognizes Bellevue's efforts to advance training and education efforts for medical professionals on LGBTQ+ health and healthcare.
This award was presented during LGBTQ+ Health Workforce 12.th Commemorative Conference, May 2-4, 2024 in New York City.

Building the Next Generation of Academic Physicians (BNGAP) helps diverse medical students and residents recognize academic medicine as a career option and provides them with the tools to further explore and potentially embark on a career in academic medicine. Pride Health Center at Bellevue was founded in 2018 to serve the needs of LGBTQ patients and communities throughout New York City.
“We developed the Pride Center to meet the needs of New Yorkers across the city and provide comprehensive, gender-affirming care to all New Yorkers, regardless of their ability to pay or their national origin.” said Dr. Pitts. “This award exemplifies the outstanding gender-affirming care we provide every day and our commitment to ensuring that all New Yorkers, including queer New Yorkers, can live the healthiest lives possible. Pride Health Center in Bellevue is staffed by five primary care providers who see patients every day. The center has a dedicated psychiatrist and clinical pharmacist who see patients for gender-affirming hormone therapy, including estrogen and testosterone, as well as long-acting HIV prevention. The center currently cares for nearly 400 LGBTQ patients, 20% of whom are uninsured, 20% speak a first language other than English, and 80% identify as Black or Latino. ing. The LGBT Health Professionals Conference is the largest and most well-known national LGBT health professional conference in the United States, held annually in New York City.
