With Bailey out, Tom Murphy will start at catcher Saturday against the Phillies. He will work with starter Keaton Wynn as the No. 7 batter ahead of Tyler Fitzgerald and Nik Ahmed.
Bailey has appeared in 25 of the Giants' 33 games this season. He is batting .278/.344/.456 with five doubles, three home runs, and 10 RBIs.
Murphy, who started nine games against the Giants and appeared in three others, will take over primary catching duties while Bailey is out.
Murphy, who signed a two-year, $8.25 million free agent contract this offseason, has started 254 MLB games as a catcher, and the Giants' pitching staff is solid. His experience is why San Francisco brought him in to help Bailey.
