The Jets continued their attack during Saturday's NFL Draft, selecting Florida State quarterback Jordan Travis with the No. 5 pick.th round.
Travis' selection followed another Joe Douglas trade.Jets GM packaged a pair of sixth-round picks (No. 185 and No. 190) to acquire Philadelphia's 171cent Select and grab Travis.
In his sixth season in college and fifth at FSU, Travis completed 20 TD passes and two interceptions for a completion percentage of 63.9%, leading the Seminoles to an 11-0 record and a No. 5 national ranking.
In Game 11 against North Alabama, Travis fractured and dislocated his left ankle, ending his season and effectively ending the Noles' season. After going 13-0 and winning the ACC title, they lost to Georgia 63-3 in the Orange Bowl.
Travis (6-1, 200) is a great leader who went 21-3 as a starter in 2022-23. If he can clear all the medical hurdles, he could have a great opportunity to learn the pro game from Aaron Rodgers and Tyrod Taylor.
“We're hoping to get a quarterback in the draft that we can draft in a year,” Douglas said at his pre-draft press conference. “Even if you hit two or three like the Packers did, you can turn that into a future draft pick or a starter elsewhere like Mark Brunell or Aaron Brooks or (Matt) Hasselbeck. It can also grow.”
The Jets worked on offense with each of the first four picks in the draft – Olu Fashanu (1st round, 11th overall), WR Machai Coley (1st round, 65th overall), and RB Braeron Allen (4th round). ), No. 134) and Travis (Rd. 5, No. 171).
