MARYSVILLE, Pa. (KDKA) — A water truck driver crashed into a store on Route 22 in Murrysville on Friday.
A truck driver was hit head-on in the Bowser crash in Murrysville. Crews began to pull the tanker from the building. After the collision, half of the vehicles became stuck inside the building.
The driver of the water truck did not appear to be injured, but was taken to a local hospital as a precaution. No employees at the crash center were injured.
Bowser Collision manager Derek Severns was about 10 feet away when the accident occurred. He described how noisy it was.
“The ceiling started falling in,” Severns said. “Some water pipes broke, so water was everywhere. It was a bit of a shock. I didn't really understand what happened.”
Murrysville Fire Chief Pat O'Mahony said the tanker only barely damaged the building's structural support beams. Only the office was affected, the customer's car was not affected.
O'Mahony said the driver lost control of the vehicle while traveling on the highway. The reason is unknown.
Mr O'Mahony said: “It was an all-hands-on-deck response to an incident of this magnitude. It's rare to have an incident of this magnitude, but everyone came together and brought the situation under control very quickly.”
Bowser plans to transfer reservations to a nearby dealership while staff work to repair the building. We plan to contact customers regarding the situation in the coming days.
