RICHMOND, Va. (WRIC) — The Virginia State Board of Education recognized 64 schools for high achievement and continuous improvement in the Exemplary Achievement Schools Recognition Program, and two schools in Richmond were recognized.
According to the board, the Exemplary School Recognition Program and its Exemplary Performance Award recognize schools that exceed requirements established by the board regarding academics and school quality.
One school in Richmond was chosen as one of the 37 schools to receive the 2023-2024 Board of Education Highest Achievement Award: Mary Mumford Elementary School.
The Board said companies that received this award demonstrated a high level of success across all quality criteria.
Richmond Career Education and Employment Charter School was selected from among 27 schools to receive the 2023-2024 Board of Education Continuous Improvement Award.
This award recognizes continuous improvement in performance-based standards.
“We are pleased to recognize and congratulate the 37 schools that received the Highest Achievement Award and the 27 schools that received the Continuous Improvement Award,” said Superintendent of Public Instruction Lisa Coons. “When high expectations are set and our schools achieve them, it deserves to be celebrated. This recognition recognizes the hard work and tireless work that our educators, staff, students, families, and communities do every day. It's a testament to their hard work. They should be very proud of everything they've accomplished.”
