PORTSMOUTH, Va. (WAVY) — Several schools in Hampton Roads were among those recognized statewide for academic achievement by the Virginia State Board of Education.
The Exemplary Schools Recognition Program awarded the Board of Education's top awards to 37 schools, including six in Hampton Roads. Five of the cases were in Virginia Beach and one in York County.
Recognized in Virginia Beach are Green Run College, Kingston Elementary School, North Landing Elementary School, Old Donation School and Rosemont Forest Elementary School. Seaford Elementary School in York County was also recognized.
The award will be based on performance and practice in the 2022-2023 and previous school years, according to the release.
Three Hampton Roads schools also received improvement awards. Green Run High and Tallwood High in Virginia Beach, and York River Academy in York County.
“On behalf of the Virginia Board of Education, I am excited to celebrate and honor the 64 schools whose achievements have been recognized,” said Board of Education President Grace Turner Creasey. “Recognition in this program is one of the highest achievements a school in the Commonwealth can receive. I congratulate all the staff, students and communities who support the success of these great schools. ”
