West Hartford resident and Cromwell native Andrea Comstock Tagoo is a local yoga instructor in West Hartford and Rocky Hill. But she is giving back to UConn Health as a volunteer in her honor to her late mother, Betty Comstock, who loved working with doctors and patients for more than 30 years. .
'Strong' Betty, who was also a patient of Dr Patrick Coll at UW's Center on Aging, sadly passed away just in February after battling dementia for over 12 years.
Betty, who worked as a clerk at UConn Health for 30 years, loved supporting patients, scheduling appointments, and attending to their follow-up needs. She worked primarily in neurology, and towards the end of her career she even served as an assistant to orthopedic spine surgeon Dr. Hilary Oniuke.
Betty had a great way with patients and was always dedicated. She also helped interpret for doctors and Spanish-speaking patients. She is from Cuba.
“My mother loved UConn Health,” her daughter fondly recalls. “She was proud to work at her UConn. It was her home away from home. UConn was a huge part of her life and the lives of all of us in her family. ”
Betty exemplified UConn Health's public service mission. She was a giver.
“Simply put, my mother was a wonderful person and generous to everyone,” Comstock Tagoo said. “That's why I want to give back to her UConn Health. They've been so good to my mom and to us!”
Comstock Tagoo and her sister also worked at UConn Health during the summers while they were students.
In honor of her mother, Comstock Tague volunteered for free yoga for UConn Health to support the health of health care workers and provide teaching opportunities within the community at UConn Health events. I started teaching.
She is volunteering for UConn Health's 2023 Employee Appreciation Week teaching classes and partnering with the Wellness Committee and Wellness Center to bring more group yoga to the community. She will also be teaching yoga at the UConn and UConn Health Community Walk event June 8 at Bushnell Park.
“I want to give a piece of myself back to UConn because my mom was so tied to UConn Health,” Comstock-Tague said. “Giving back to UConn in any way means so much.”
She emphasizes that yoga is great for not only your health but also your own well-being.
“I find such peace in yoga. My solitude is my yoga practice. Yoga gives me the opportunity to take time to focus on myself and my overall health. I want to give the people who work at Health the same kind of peace that I get from doing yoga and help them use it to their benefit.'' Comstock Tags says Mr.
After Betty's death, all donations in her memory will go to the Janet E. McElhaney Foundation for Aging Research and Geriatric Care at UConn Health, with the goal of helping older adults like her live more fulfilling lives. sent to the fund.
The University Center on Aging not only helped Betty fight dementia, but as a dedicated medical professional at Yukon Health, a public academic medical center in Connecticut, Betty also leveraged its medical research and teaching strengths. I believed it with all my heart.
