A four-car streetcar crashed at Universal Studios Hollywood Saturday night, injuring more than a dozen people, authorities said.
Los Angeles County Sheriff's Lt. Maria Abal said the last car on the streetcar hit the rails as it descended a hill in a parking lot.
“There was some problem with the brakes,” Abal said. “We don't know exactly yet.”
The Los Angeles County Fire Department was called to the scene at 9:04 p.m.
A total of 14 people were injured, including one with moderate injuries, said Frederick Fielding, a spokesman for the county fire department.
At least four passengers were taken to hospital with injuries, but their injuries do not appear to be life-threatening, Abal said.
In a statement late Saturday, the theme park confirmed that an incident occurred that “resulted in multiple minor injuries.”
Universal Studios Hollywood said in a statement to the Times: “We are working to support our guests and understand the circumstances that led to the accident.”
Abal said more than 100 people can ride on the park's trams, but it was unclear how many were on board at the time of the incident.
The accident will be investigated by the California Highway Patrol.
The Universal Studios Tram Tour, also known as the World Famous Studio Tour, is the theme park's signature attraction. The park will celebrate the ride's 60th anniversary starting next week.
This tour takes you behind the scenes on movie sets, from Jaws to Jordan Peele's Nope, and looks back on the past 50 years of Universal Pictures.
