First lady Jill Biden was in Aurora on Saturday to tour the Ludman Family Women's Health Research Center on the University of Colorado Anschutz campus.
“The University of Colorado is making a huge difference, and we are at an incredible tipping point and poised to make great strides in this research focused on women,” Biden said. .
She also spoke with doctors about efforts to improve health care for women in Colorado.
Research on women's health can be very different from research on men's health and is still poorly understood.
“Research on women's health was, and still is, less studied. And I tell people that. Some of these people think, 'She's exaggerating.' I'm not exaggerating. That's why we're here today,” said Dr. Judith Regensteiner, director of the Ludman Family Center for Women's Health Research.
“Even though we've made great strides over the past 20 years, women still seek health care in a world of health care designed primarily for men,” Biden said.
The trip was quick and served as the first lady's primary means of promoting the president's efforts to fund women's health care at the federal level.
“This is the same thing we've been talking about. You know, this is why the president signed this funding,” Biden said. “When the government funds research, we make sure that it includes women from the beginning, and when discoveries are made, those ideas go to women and their families who are waiting for answers. .”
However, the event brought much-needed attention to an issue that affects all women in this country.
“Women's health is a necessity, not a luxury,” says Regensteiner.
