EL PASO, Texas (KTSM) — The Socorro community is planning a big birthday party for a school celebrating its 100th anniversary.
Escontorias STEAM Academy is celebrating 100 years of the campus serving the educational needs of the Socorro community under various names.
The event will be held on Saturday, May 18th from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the campus at 205 Buford Road.
The campus became Escontorias STEAM Academy at the beginning of the 2022-23 school year. Previously, the 100-year-old campus was named the Escontrias Early Childhood Center, where students from preschool through first grade were educated, and the new Escontrias Elementary School served students from second grade through fifth grade. I was there.
We have started a new initiative to integrate the two campuses and provide a STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Mathematics) learning environment as one campus.
The old campus, originally called Escontorias Elementary School, has served Socorro since 1924.
The birthday celebration will include performances by STEAM Academy students and other students from surrounding feeder patterns. There will be a free game booth, jumping balloons run by academy teachers, a car show, merchandise booths, food trucks, and more.
