Alpena Community College hosted a Career and Technical Education Signing Day for Alpena high school students looking to further their education on campus.
“Career and Technology Signing Day is meant to mimic sports Signing Day. Instead of celebrating someone's athletic ability, that's admirable too. We're here to showcase their choices and future career-oriented training and education so they're ready for a fulfilling life in the workforce. said Lee Fitzpatrick, director of communications for Alpena Public Schools.
The signing day was led by NC3, a qualification body that helps students gain qualifications that will help them in the workplace.
“I think it's great. ACC is a great partner for us. So the partnership between Alpena Public Schools and ACC is something that benefits the kids and the community. So we know that we can help the kids. We're very happy to be able to do that. We've intentionally built a pathway for our kids between the high school and these career programs within the ACC. So they're a great partner to transfer kids to. , I'm happy for them to be able to take the next step in their careers,'' Fitzpatrick said.
Each student who participated in Career and Technology Signing Day was awarded a $250 scholarship towards their education.
“We want every student to understand that there is a path forward. So this is a different path for some people. It allows them to explore things that they're really interested in, and it moves them toward the ability to make a living and contribute to the community, and those are both great things,” Fitzpatrick said.
Fitzpatrick said he is proud of all of his students and reminds them that they have a support system of family, friends and educators who support their decisions to pursue a technical career.
