On March 6, 2024, the Special Education Assistive Technology Center, known as the SEAT Center, held its first open house event for students since renovations began. Students were able to move between stations demonstrating a variety of assistive technology devices, creative teaching methods, and Braille activities. This open house was planned and facilitated by Dr. Kim Fisher and a team of SEAT Center student workers.
The SEAT Center has long been a staple of the Department of Special Education, with an extensive library of assistive technology equipment for students to learn and practice skills that will transfer into the classroom of the future. The goal of the SEAT Center has always been to prepare special education and general education students with the use of assistive technology for students who require extensive support so that they can participate in schooling and society. .
To consistently achieve this goal, SEAT Centers must keep their assistive technology resources up to date and continue to create an inclusive educational environment for their future students. The Department of Special Education is currently fundraising to provide more communication and literacy development resources at the SEAT Center.
Help the SEAT Center reach its goal of raising $9,000 for purchases.
