ROCHESTER, N.Y. (WROC) — Mayor Malik Evans discussed the issue of violence in the city in his City Hall Address and touched on several key factors that lead to crime.
While focusing on the social behavior aspect, the Rochester Police Department shared that it is the first local police agency in America to have 24/7 access to ATF agents who investigate all firearm arrests.
“As a result, we have placed more than 100 violent criminals in federal custody, preventing them from wreaking havoc and perpetuating violence on our streets, and RPD has removed more than 800 illegal guns from the streets in the last year. . Two a day,” Mayor Evans said.
Another aspect is the lack of money, he continued, citing news of job growth and business development plans in the city, such as Constellation Brands, which brings Fortune 500 companies to downtown Rochester. Shared.
“This longtime king of the adult beverage industry will relocate to the Suidobashi Building this summer, injecting hundreds of workers and perhaps a few new residents into our downtown, and bringing the 10,000 people who will call downtown home. “Join more and more people in our city's vibrant work-play environment,” he said.
Finally, I touched on the importance of permanent residence. Neighborhood and Business Development Commissioner Dana Miller attended the event to discuss ongoing projects.
“Because owning a home and having a stable home is more important than having a home that's always on the go. So that's what we're focusing on, and what we're seeing more and more of. People will be able to own their own homes and we are working hard to keep building them. We have built 24 units in the North East and are preparing to build 30 units in the South West.” said Miller.
Mayor Evans also talked about many other projects in the works, including units being built on Plymouth and Main, Canal Street and North Clinton, just to name a few.
