In the wake of Iran's unprecedented airstrikes against Israel, President Biden is coordinating a comprehensive response with allies and partners, including the G7, and bipartisan leaders in Congress. The United States is expected to impose new sanctions targeting Iran in the coming days, including new sanctions on entities supporting its missile and drone programs and the Islamic Revolutionary Guards Corps (IRGC) and Iran's Ministry of Defense. We expect our allies and partners to also impose their own sanctions soon. Additionally, through the Department of Defense and U.S. Central Command, we will further strengthen and expand the successful integration of air and missile defense and early warning systems across the Middle East to further undermine the effectiveness of Iran's missile and unmanned aerial vehicle capabilities. I will continue to strive to do so.
These new sanctions and other measures will continue the steady drumbeat of pressure to contain and degrade Iran's military capabilities and effectiveness and confront the full range of Iran's problematic behavior. Over the past three years, in addition to missile and drone-related sanctions, the United States has sanctioned more than 600 individuals and entities associated with terrorism, terrorist financing, other illicit trade, horrific human rights violations, and support for proxy terrorist groups. , including Hamas, Hezbollah, the Houthis, and Kataib Hezbollah. The pressure will continue. Together with our allies and partners around the world, and with Congress, we will not hesitate to take action to hold the Iranian government accountable for its malign and destabilizing actions.
