Kelly Spaugh, college and career readiness coach at Apollo High School, was recently recognized for her work helping students prepare for post-secondary education. Spaw received the second annual Pathfinder of the Year Award from Owensboro Community & Technical College.
The Pathfinder Award, established by the Kentucky Community & Technical College System (KCTCS), recognizes high school teachers and counselors for their outstanding efforts in helping students plan for college.
“I am honored to receive this award, and I am so happy to have worked with so many wonderful people and students,” Spaugh said. “OCTC is a great partner with Davis County Public Schools and we are honored to have the opportunity to work with these kids who are so excited about their future.”
Spou has spent 23 years in the education field and has held her current position since 2018. She works closely with her Apollo students enrolled in dual credit courses through OCTC and works to develop academic plans for those students. She will help you decide on the right career path or course selection to achieve your educational and career goals.
OCTC President Dr. Scott Williams surprised Spaw on April 10 at Apollo High School.
“MS. Spaugh has a distinguished career of helping Apollo High School students begin their college careers,” Williams said. “She has helped many students achieve their dreams and continue their education. We are so proud of Ms. Spaw and congratulate her on this well-deserved recognition.”
In addition to Spaw, the Pathfinder of the Year award will be presented to one teacher or counselor from each of the other 15 KCTCS colleges. A total of 330 nominations were submitted, representing each of the KCCTCS colleges.
