Valley City State University (VCSU) has officially added competitive shooting as a coeducational intercollegiate sport for students.
The VCSU Shooting Sports team will begin traveling to trap competitions in fall 2024.
“We are excited to be able to offer our students the opportunity to compete in this sport and officially represent VCSU,” said President Alain LaFave. “Clay target sports are growing in popularity and we want to ensure that all VCSU students have the opportunity to participate in the activities, competitions and groups they enjoy. Adding shooting sports teams to the list of official sports is , which is important to us.'' We are very much looking forward to opening the campus this fall. ”
“Students interested in joining a shooting sports team are encouraged to visit VCSU to tour the facilities and learn more about the team's tuition assistance program,” said Dr. Nick Gault, team coach and professor. said. “Our VCSU Trap Club members have been competing at the state level for years, and we are excited to see how our new shooting sports team can take that participation to the next level. ”
Currently, Trap Shooting operates as a student-led club on campus. The VCSU Trap Club was founded in his fall of 2020. Recent highlights include winning the Fall 2023 Shootout singles for Kayden and Schaefer in his trap with his 100/100 score. The team also won the 2023 North Dakota State Collegiate Clay Target Championship in American Trap. The team practices at the OH range in Valley City.
