Trap shooting competition scheduled to begin in fall 2024
Valley City State University (VCSU) has officially added competitive shooting as a coeducational intercollegiate sport for students.
The VCSU Shooting Sports team will begin traveling to trap competitions in fall 2024.
“We are excited to be able to offer our students the opportunity to compete in this sport and officially represent VCSU,” said President Alain LaFave. “Clay target sports are growing in popularity and we want to ensure that all VCSU students have the opportunity to participate in the activities, competitions and groups they love. The addition of shooting sports teams to the list of official sports is a great addition to our list of official sports. We are very much looking forward to seeing this happen as a campus this fall.”
“Students interested in joining a shooting sports team are encouraged to visit VCSU to tour the facilities and learn more about the team’s tuition assistance program,” said team coach and professor Dr. Nick Gault. I did. “Our VCSU Trap Club members have been competing at the state level for years, and we are excited to see how our new shooting sports team can take that participation to the next level.”
The student-led VCSU Trap Club was founded in fall 2020. Recent highlights include winning the Single Trap at the Fall 2023 Shootout over Kayden and his Schaefer with his 100/100 score. The team also won the 2023 North Dakota State Collegiate Clay Target Championship in American Trap. The team practices at the OH range in Valley City.
