Old Time Grocery's shrimp po-boys are extremely popular, accounting for 60 percent of sales, said president Ross Murphree.

The staff makes about 700 sandwiches each day Monday through Thursday, and up to 1,000 on Fridays. He said Fridays during Lent sell up to 2,000 fish, with 600 pounds of Gulf white shrimp being used each time.
Old Time Grocery was an actual grocery store with a small delicatessen space until Murphree's father, Glenn, purchased it in 1982. Glenn borrowed $8,000 from his father and another $8,000 from the bank to make the purchase, even though he didn't have much experience in the food industry. Murphree said.

The Murphree family also owns Sandra's Cafe and Health Food Store in Lafayette and BJ's Sandwich Shop in Broussard.
