EDMONTON, Ky. – The Metcalf County Board of Education held a special meeting on Thursday, April 11, 2024. This meeting served as the school board's regular monthly meeting for the month of April.
On the agenda, the board appointed Daniel Glass to fill the vacancy in District 2, created on February 19, 2024, and previously held by Joey Schieve. Glass graduated from Metcalf County High School in 2007 and was employed by SCRTC. He said he looks forward to serving the students, teachers, families and community of Metcalfe County.
“I want to work for the school district and be an advocate for the community I represent,” Glass said. “I am committed to making the best decisions possible and moving in the right direction for the success of our students and our district.” Glass' appointment will remain in effect until the November general election. Directors elected thereafter will continue to serve indefinite terms until 2026.
The board also approved a new three-year contract for Superintendent Josh Hart. The contract period begins on July 1, 2024 and ends on June 30, 2027.
The board recognized Barrett Glass, a sixth-grader at Metcalfe County Middle School, as Student of the Month. MCMS Cafeteria Manager Diane Lessenberry was named Recognized Employee of the Month, and her girlfriend Tammy Tarter, MCMS ELA teacher, was named Recognized Employee of the Month.
The board also recognized MCES fifth-grader Jameah Kirby, the state winner of the 2023-24 AARP/KRTA “Grandparent of the Year” essay contest. Jamia and her great-grandmother, Carolyn Kirby, will be honored at the Kentucky Retired Teachers Association convention on April 23.
