As young children used to sing, “Rain, rain, go away and come another day”…or the moon.
The good news for the district's baseball and softball teams is that the rain has stopped and some sunshine is expected Saturday.
The million-dollar question now is: Will each team take advantage of this rare good weather to play in the postponed Game 1 or Game 2 games, or will the field be too waterlogged to be used? I mean, is it?
Having a grass field helps both the home team and the visiting pair.
The two teams going in opposite directions will conclude their section series on the Gateway turf when Hempfield takes on Baldwin at noon.
The Spartans sit atop Section 2-6A with a 5-0 record and 9-0 overall and are looking for their second straight three-game sweep.
The Highlanders are struggling with 0 wins and 4 losses this season, and 1 win and 7 losses overall.
Hempfield defeated Baldwin by a combined score of 19-2 in the first two games of the series on Tuesday and Wednesday.

The Saturday afternoon schedule includes several WPIAL section softball games that may or may not be played.
One of the games is a big Section 3-5A game as Western Beaver visits West Allegheny.
South Fayette and Mars are tied for first place in their section with a 2-1 record. The Golden Beavers are 1-1 and the Indians are 1-0.
Western Beaver and West Allegheny are a combined 9-2, averaging double-digit points per game.
The Golden Beavers are averaging 11 points per game in three games, while the Indians have averaged more than 10 points per game in eight games.
Relax on the weekend
Several WPIAL lacrosse teams compete against out-of-district or out-of-state teams.
However, some fighting will occur within District 7's borders on Saturday.
On the boys side, Mars will visit Mount Lebanon, North Hills will be home to Gateway, and Hempfield will take on Central Catholic.
In girls lacrosse, Canon-McMillan travels to South Fayette, North Allegheny hosts Freeport and Moon takes on Sewickley Academy.
