Dr. Amy Spears will join the Department of Music as an assistant professor of music education starting in the fall semester.
Dr. Spears holds a Ph.D. He received his doctorate in music education from Arizona State University. Her dissertation, “Promoting Auditory Learning in High School Wind Band Students Through Informal, Student-Centered Practices,” relates to culturally responsive instruction and the development of students' musical talent. She earned a bachelor's degree in music education from Auburn University and a master's degree in flute performance from the University of Alabama.
Spears has extensive teaching experience at the collegiate level, including courses in instrumental music, social justice, conducting, and rock band. She also taught middle school and high school band in Alabama and Arizona for seven years.

We are proud to support Dr. Spears and our faculty, communities, and music education majors. We look forward to working with our students.”
