43 social workers honored for dedication to patients
Social workers are an integral part of NYC Health + Hospitals.More than 1,000 social workers employed across the health system
Award recipients were nominated by their peers and selected by the facility's individual social work recognition committee.

NYC Health + Hospitals today announced 43 social workers from across the health system who were honored for their dedication and commitment to patients. The health system employs more than 1,000 social workers in a variety of roles, including administrators, therapists, researchers, discharge planners, and policy makers. In these positions, you will work closely with family caregivers, friends, neighbors, and community-based agencies to help patients resume their lives in the community. This year, he was one of 43 recipients selected by the institutions' individual social work recognition committees from more than 400 nominations submitted from across the system. Award recipients were recognized for their dedication to patients and passion for NYC Health + Hospitals' mission.
“The people who come to our hospitals need more social work,” he said. NYC Health + Hospitals President and CEO Mitchell Katz, MD. “In addition to battling illness, they often live in substandard housing, deal with family crises and challenges, and struggle with substance abuse. Our communities need social workers in many ways that medicine alone cannot solve. We could not do what we do without social workers.”

According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, social work is one of the fastest growing professions in the United States. There are approximately 720,000 professional social workers in the country, and the number is expected to rise to over 800,000 by 2030.
