Jordan Coleman, the defending 100-meter City Section champion, made his outdoor debut for Granada Hills in Thursday's dual meet against El Camino Real. Let's just say he made a big difference.
In the boys 4×100 relay, the relay team of Coleman, Justin Hart, Timothy Wyatt and Kanye Martin won in 40.29 seconds, making it the fastest in the state this season and fifth all-time. This was faster than Granada Hills' time of 40.68 seconds, which set the city record last season.
Coleman then won the 100 heat in 10.88 seconds, the fastest time to start the season. He was injured after running an indoor circuit. He said he was excited because after the race he had no pain and felt good. His best time last season was 10.36 seconds at the Arcadia Invitational, so he believes he will be a player to watch by the time he reaches his peak form next month at the city and state championships.
In the two meets held at Taft, Arcadia Invitational high jump champion Deshaun Banks of Birmingham cleared with a personal best 6-11.
