The Kentucky Board of Education (KBE) is accepting nominations until May 17 for the 2024 Grissom Award for Innovation in Special Education.
KBE presents this award annually to a Kentucky or Kentucky-based organization to recognize outstanding dedication to the academic advancement of students with disabilities.
The award criteria are as follows:
• Leadership or implementation of innovative practices in curriculum, instruction, or assessment that lead to improved learning, postsecondary education, or workforce outcomes for students with learning or behavioral differences.and
• Districts or schools that demonstrate significant improvement or sustained excellence in academic or behavioral outcomes for students with learning or behavioral differences.
The award is named in honor of the late Johnny Grissom, a longtime employee of the Kentucky Department of Education and deputy director of the Office of Special Instruction Services. Grissom demonstrated steadfast dedication, service, and leadership to help all students achieve at high levels, regardless of their disability.
