pittsburgh california – Los Medanos College (LMC) celebrates its 50th anniversary this year, and to begin recognizing 50 years of excellence in education, workforce training, and innovation, the college unveiled its 50th anniversary logo.
The gold logo recalls LMC's discontinued branding. At the center is a stylized compass rose with each direction spelling out Her LMC, signifying Her LMC's mission to help students find their futures. Although the mark is no longer in use, it remains a sentimental favorite among alumni and longtime residents of the East Bay community.
The looping 5's and 0's of 50 touching the inner golden circle of the anniversary logo conveys the endless search for knowledge and truth and unwavering service to the greater good. The Contra Costa Community College District (4CD) opened Los Medanos College in Pittsburgh in 1974 to serve eastern Contra Costa County. Currently, its service area includes Pittsburgh, Antioch, Bay Point, Clayton, parts of Concord, Brentwood, Oakley, Knightsen, Bethel Island, Byron and Discovery Bay. It is the third of three universities in 4CD.
“Over the past 50 years, LMC has grown in response to the needs of our students and the greater community,” President Ralston said. “We have grown our offering to more than 90 programs, added a new state-of-the-art Brentwood Center, and established ourselves as the cultural hub of our community. As we look to the next 50 years, we have grown our alumni is leading the way and continuing this tradition with a focus on innovating and shaping a sustainable and equitable future for future generations.”
For LMC, 2024 will be a golden year celebrating its overall success and achievements. LMC has been ranked among the top 150 community colleges in the United States five times in a row over the past year. The university is one of the best community colleges in mathematics, according to BestAccreditedColleges.org, and LMC athletes consistently win their conferences and qualify for postseason play.
