UFC heavyweight champion Jon Jones has been summoned to court for allegedly verbally threatening to kill a female anti-doping official in Albuquerque.
The incident is said to have happened at Jones' home on March 30 and was reported to police on Friday.
A police report seen by the BBC said the complainant was drunk and threatened to kill Ms Jones after she was asked to provide a urine sample in the presence of two anti-doping officers. He said his cell phone was taken away.
In response, Jones posted a video on Instagram that showed both drug testers “exchanging high fives and hugs and leaving the house after the testing session.”
The player, who accused one of the inspectors of violating standard protocols and health insurance laws, said: “I was frustrated by the lack of professionalism and used profanity out of frustration, but the outcome was amicable and amicable.'' “It's over, it wasn't threatening in any way,” he added.
Jones, 36, has not fought since March 2023, when he defeated France's Cyril Gane by submission.
He has been undefeated since his only loss in 2009 against Matt Hamill.
In 2018, Jones was sentenced to a 15-month suspension for violating the UFC's anti-doping policy. The American fighter was stripped of his light heavyweight title after testing positive for a banned substance before his fight at UFC 214 in 2017.
However, the United States Anti-Doping Agency (Usada) found that Jones “did not intentionally cheat.”
In 2023, Mr Jones said he felt he was exempt from being a “steroid cheater” after threshold levels for certain banned substances were changed in 2019.
