DALLAS — In September 1999, WFAA launched a new high school sports program following Sunday night's “Dale Hansen Sports Special.” “High School Sports Special” he put WFAA into a league of its own in high school sports coverage. Over the years, we have served countless student-athletes and their parents, as well as many communities across North Texas.
However, after 25 years, “High School Sports Special'' has come to an end.
WFAA's acclaimed high school sports coverage will continue, but it will be absorbed into the station's larger commitment to covering North Texas' ever-evolving athletics landscape. This includes Joe Trahan's “High School Game Night” on the 10 p.m. news on fall nights, Mike Leslie's live “Friday Night Football” and “Tuesday Night Hoops” digital broadcasts, and, of course, regular feature stories and WFAA originals about high school heroes from across Dallas-Fort Worth.
