National Walking Day falls on the first Wednesday in April, and organizations like the American Heart Association raise awareness about the importance of physical activity.
According to the organization, one in four American adults sits for more than eight hours a day. Not moving regularly can have a negative impact on your physical and mental health.
In honor of this year's National Walking Day, the American Heart Association is encouraging everyone to take a walk and get more physically active on April 3. Not only is walking an easy way to get active, it can also help reduce stress and improve your mood and sleep. Reduces the risk of diseases such as cardiovascular disease.
The American Heart Association recommends at least 150 minutes of moderate aerobic exercise each week or 75 minutes of vigorous aerobic exercise of walking each week.
Another way you can get involved in National Walking Day is by inviting friends and family to join you for a walk. If you work remotely, the American Heart Association recommends taking a walk and taking a conference call on the go. You can also move your pet along by going for extra walks.
