Severe thunderstorms caused “flooding, downed trees, power outages and road closures” across West Virginia, according to Gov. Jim Justice, who declared a state of emergency in Fayette, Kanawha, Lincoln and Nicholas counties on Tuesday.
At least 13 homes were damaged and some residents were injured in Fayette County, West Virginia, Emergency Management Agency Director Kevin Walker told CNN. Walker said the injuries were not life-threatening.
“Some have been destroyed and others have sustained significant damage,” Walker said.
On Tuesday and Wednesday morning, 14 tornadoes were reported across Illinois, Kentucky, Ohio, Alabama, Tennessee and Georgia, as well as dozens more in Kentucky, including wind gusts exceeding 100 mph. There were also reports of damaging winds.
A tornado struck Conyers, Georgia, just southeast of Atlanta, early Wednesday, knocking out power lines and causing damage, CNN affiliate WXIA reported. A tree crashed through a teenage boy's car during the storm, hitting him in the knee. The boy was rescued and taken to a hospital, WXIA reported.

Structural damage was also reported across Barnsdall, Oklahoma, after four tornadoes tore through the state on Monday, according to Barnsdall police. Police Officer Eric Sofian told CNN that homes were damaged, garages were destroyed and roofs were torn off from some homes.

Multiple vehicles were overturned on Interstate 265 in southern Indiana “due to high winds or the possibility of a tornado,” Indiana State Police in Sellersburg said, adding that there were minor injuries.
The storm will continue to bring the threat of twisters, strong winds and large hail, this time across parts of the Southeast and East Coast from Florida to the Mid-Atlantic. More than 35 million people were under some degree of severe weather threat Wednesday, according to the Storm Prediction Center.

Long blizzard and strong winds
The extended winter storm will bring significant snow and strong winds to the Great Lakes and Northeast, according to the National Weather Service. About 12 million people are under winter weather warnings, primarily across northern New England, according to the National Weather Service.
Heavy snow will continue to fall in Wisconsin and Upper Michigan through Thursday. Up to 2 feet of snow is expected to fall in parts of northern Wisconsin and northern Michigan, and blizzard warnings are in effect.

Heavy snow and sleet will move into northern New York, much of Vermont, New Hampshire, and Maine. Six to 14 inches of snow and up to an inch of sleet is possible. The National Weather Service said more than 12 inches of snow could accumulate in upstate New York and central New England.
The combination of heavy snow and strong winds is expected to affect travel and power outages. Whiteout conditions and snow-covered roads can cause hazardous travel conditions in the area, and heavy, wet snow and strong winds can cause power outages and downed trees.
Moderate coastal flooding is possible in parts of the northeast coast late Wednesday into Thursday, the Bureau of Meteorology said. This could result in widespread road flooding, coastal and bay flooding, impassable roads, and damage to vulnerable structures.
“Strong storms will impact the region into Thursday,” the National Weather Service in New York said in a statement. “It is resistant to damaging winds, heavy rain, and widespread minor to moderate coastal flooding during high tide late Wednesday and early Thursday.”
