christiansburg, virginia – Christiansburg town leaders have launched a program to help small businesses looking to start up in town. One business owner said the program could be great for the town.
“Starting and growing a business from scratch always comes with its challenges and joys,” says Astley-Hill. “We feel that having a program like the Startup Program is an asset to anyone looking to start a business.”
Hill is the owner of Chandry's in downtown Christiansburg.
She has been there since May 2023 and said she believes small businesses are essential to the community.
“I feel like downtown is the heart of the community,” Hill said.
Once you complete the 10-week program, you'll be able to pitch your idea for a chance to win up to $5,000 in grants.
“This could be a life-changing amount of money for people in our community,” said Amanda Hebert, Small Business Solutions Manager for the Town of Christiansburg.
She said there were only a few requirements for people.
“For the first year, we are looking for participants to live in Christiansburg, and we are also looking for participants to have a business idea. They are willing to share that idea with people and do it in a safe environment. We need to seriously consider the idea.”
Hill said as a business owner, it's great to see support like this for small businesses.
“Seeing them invest in attracting small businesses and continuing the growth of our town gives me a sense of promise, not only as a small business owner, but as a resident here in Christiansburg.” Hill said.
Town officials say the program requires a $200 deposit, which will be returned once you market your business and complete the program.
