CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. – Austin Peay State University's Office of Military Affairs and Veterans Affairs and American Veterans Women Chapter 47 will host the 3rd Annual Women Veterans Education Summit on March 23 from 10 a.m. to noon at the APSU Track Center was hosted. The event attracted 161 participants, including 27 vendors and 64 women veterans, the highest attendance in her three-year history.
The summit was designed to provide resources, support and a sense of community to women veterans in the Clarksville area. Zoe Jackson, Chapter 47's current commander, emphasized the importance of the organization's presence in the community through events like the summit.
“This is a way for women veterans to come together and form a support system to address the issues and concerns they face,” Jackson said. “The Clarksville community is very welcoming, supportive and eager to share resources with women veterans.”
The chapter also holds regular meetings on the first Tuesday of each month from 5-6 p.m., organizes social events to foster camaraderie and support among members, and works closely with Austin Peay State University . Jackson described the university as a “big brother and big sister” in terms of educational and personal support for veterans.
“As a veteran who served in the Army for 23 years and worked at Austin Peay for 17 years, I have had the opportunity to watch the university go from strength to strength in supporting veterans,” said APSU Vice President of Military and Veterans Affairs. said Jasmine Linares, assistant manager. Split. “We are the gold standard, and events such as our educational summit and our annual Women Veterans Celebration Day demonstrate the dedication and value the university has for our veterans.”
In honor of Women's History Month, the Military and Veterans Affairs Division has also spent the month of March sharing the stories of local women veterans, including Chapter 47 members and Clarksville-area businesses. The goal is to highlight the important role women veterans play in their communities and the need for continued support and resources.
Professor Austin Peay went a step further by proposing a day for student government to recognize all women veterans, and the university now celebrates APSU Women Veterans Day on the third Thursday of March each year .
