Join the Department of Health from Monday, April 1 to Friday, April 5 to celebrate National Public Health Week with activities focused on making our communities healthier, safer, and stronger.
This year's theme is the week from April 1st to the 7th. “Protect, connect, and thrive: We are all public health.” Public health is simply how the health department serves the Wellesley community: the right to clean water and air, access to nutritious and safe food, and access to essential medical services. and how our communities can thrive. When all of our needs are met.
Each day of National Public Health Week will focus on a different department within the Department of Health. Learn how each team works with the Wellesley community and each other.
Meet Health Department staff and learn more about our services and programs, including hands-on games and activities, and fun giveaways and prizes. The schedule of events is as follows. All activities are free and open to everyone.
Monday, April 1st – Introducing our nurses
Wellesley Free Library, 10 a.m. to noon. Check your blood pressure, test your disease knowledge and get a free first aid kit (while supplies last)
Tuesday, April 2nd – Community Health
Wellesley Free Library, 10:00 a.m. – 11:30 a.m. Meet with Sustainability Director Marybeth Martello and learn what you can do to reduce the effects of climate change.
Wellesley Free Library, 2pm-4pm Meet Community Health Engagement Coordinator Jana Wallace to learn about vaping, emergency preparedness, and other fun tips, and win prizes
April 3rd (Wednesday) Enjoy the outdoors!
Warren Park/Health Department (90 Washington Street), 10 a.m.-noon. Join Health Department staff at Warren Park to play games, win prizes, and enjoy the outdoors (free solar eclipse glasses while supplies last)
Thursday 4th April – Social Work
Wellesley Free Library, 2:00pm – 4:00pm Meet with a health department social worker, learn about mental health and self-care, and collect fidget toys
Wellesley Free Library Children's Room, 3:30pm – 5:00pm Meet the “Glitterbug” and learn about germs and why hand washing is so important, plus fun crafts, games, and giveaways (note: this The event is perfect for children)
Friday 5th April – Environmental Health
Wellesley Free Library, 2:00pm – 4:00pm Meet our environmental health team, learn how we keep public areas clean and safe, and take another look at “Glitterbug.”
